Highlights of Guatemala | Trip Itinerary

Day 1/Saturday:  Travel to Guatemala City.  On arrival you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2/Sunday:  Tikal overnight.  Early in the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport to board the flight that will take you to Flores.  Once there you will be taken to Tikal, where you will start your sightseeing of the ruins and have a picnic lunch.  Overnight accommodations in Tikal or Flores. **Note two day Tikal visit is possible with private tours only. For shared tours you'll visit Tikal one day, and Yaxha + Topoxte on the other. Option to upgrade to Ceibal, and other sites available on request. (B, L)

Day 3/Monday:  Today you will finish your tour of the ruins of Tikal, and visit to the museum nearby.  In the afternoon you will be transferred back to the airport in Flores for your return flights to Guatemala City, and transfer back to your hotel. (B, L)

Day 4/Tuesday:  Copan & Quirigua.  This morning you will drive through the eastern part of Guatemala, via the states of El Progreso and Zacapa, to arrive at the border with Honduras.  After immigration formalities, you will drive to Copan, one of the most fascinating Mayan ruin sites.  You will be allowed to explore and marvel at the beautiful stellae and majestic temples, including a complete ball court.  Overnight in Copan. Day 5/Wednesday:  Travel back across the border to Guatemala, to visit the archaeological site of Quirigua.  Some of the most interesting and beautiful Mayan stellae are found here in the state of Izabal.  In the afternoon you will return to Guatemala City and check in to your hotel.  (B)

Day 6/Thursday:  In the morning, leave for Chichicastenango.  On arrival visit the colorful open-air market and the Church of Santo Tomas.  The afternoon is at leisure for further shopping or to see the town on your own.  (B)

Day 7/Friday:  After breakfast, depart for Solola, where you will visit the Indian market.  In the afternoon, continue to Lake Atitlan, where you will spend the night. (B)

Day 8/Saturday:  Around 9:00 AM you will join the launch excursion to the lakeside village of Santiago Atitlan.  Continue to Antigua for overnight accommodations.  (B)

Day 9/Sunday:  Visit the most interesting sites:  churches, convents, monasteries and other colonial buildings.  After lunch, return to your Guatemala City hotel.  (B)

Day 10/Monday:  You will be transferred to the international airport for your departure flights. (B)

Option to substitute Ceibal for Day 2  Tikal tour—add $100 per person

Day 2/Sunday:  Early in the morning you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the airport to board the flight that will take you to Flores.  Once there, you will be picked up and be taken to Ceibal, where you will visit the archaeological site. Transportation to Ceibal is via overland transfer and motorized launch. Overnight accommodations in either Flores or Tikal area.  (B)

Day 3/Monday:  Today you will be taken to Tikal and be given a sightseeing tour of the ruins.  You will also visit the museum of Tikal.  After lunch, you’ll be transferred back to Flores to board the flight that will take you back to Guatemala City, and transfer to your hotel.  (B)
